Ruth 3:1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you?
Ruth 3:2 “Now is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maids you were? Behold, he winnows barley at the threshing floor tonight.
Ruth 3:3 “Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself and put on your best clothes, and go down to the threshing floor;
Naomi is asking Ruth to go down to the threshing floor and to ask Boaz, who is a type of Christ, to redeem her life. She will be asking Boaz to take her as his wife, which of course He joyfully does. Boaz was a very wealthy and prominent man. He was also the Great Grandfather of David, and thus the great, great, great, etc., Grandfather of Jesus. When she married Boaz she became very influential, and Ruth 4 says she became famous in the land.
Ruth was a Moabites who married Naomi’s son Mahlon. After a short time of marriage Mahlon suddenly died. I’m sure Ruth loved Mahlon very much, she certainly experienced great sorrow when he died.
Many of you have suffered losses in your life that were very devastated, and you wondered if your dreams for abundant life were lost forever.
Ruth’s story gives insight into what our Kinsmen Redeemer Jesus is able to do with a broken life that’s yielded in faith to Him. Even though she lost Mahlon, she ended up married to Boaz, and thrust into God’s purposes at the highest level. If Mahlon had lived, Ruth would have never met and married Boaz. Isn’t it wild how God can take the very loss that we’ve suffered, that we thought permanently robbed us of life’s best, to position us to experience everything we’ve ever hoped for, and more.
If like Ruth, you’ve lost your Mahlon, whatever that may represent, just keep moving in faith, until your Kinsmen Redeemer shows up and transforms it all, giving you better than you ever originally imagined.
