Job 42:2 “I know that You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.

Job 42:3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’
“Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand,
Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.”

The two most important things I ever understood about God is that He is BIG and He is GOOD. those two truths have directed most of my Christian life. In light all that Job had suffered and lost, he began to question the fairness, or goodness of God. There is an interesting verse in James 5, “We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.” Even though Job was in pain, and didn’t understand what God was doing, James tells us that God’s goodness and good intentions were still at work. By chapter 42 Job gets it. He says in verse 2 that he knows that Gods purposes can’t be thwarted, in verse 42 he declares that God is up to something wonderful, even if he is still in pain, and still doesn’t understand. Faith is at highest when you can trust God while still in pain and can’t understand what God is up, and nothing about it seems good. If you can praise Him in those moment; if in that place you can believe that His wonderful purposes, in the end will be manifested, then you’ve learned how to live by faith in all of the seasons of life.
