Luke 1:34  Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

All of us cast shadows. The shadows we cast impact the environment and the people we are around either negatively or positively.  In the book of Acts the sick were placed on cots and placed in the streets so that when Peter passed by his shadow night touch them and they would be healed. He cast the shadow of the Holy Spirit that was on Him. If you walk into a room full of fear, paranoia, and anxiety, it will cast a shadow over all the people who you come in contact with and over the atmosphere of the whole room.  If you are standing alone in the sun you will cast your own shadow, but if something is bigger and taller than you that is standing behind you it’s shadow will overshadow yours. Your shadow will become hidden and the only shadow seen will be the one of the larger object that is now overshadowing you.  Mary was being asked to participate in something impossible for her humanity to produce. Her presence, and her ability cast a very small  shadow in this particular situation, but  because the Holy Spirit was involved the inadequate shadow of her inability and weakness were totally overshadowed by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, and therefore the only shadow that could be seen was God’s.  When you live your life abiding in Christ,  The Holy Spirit will overshadow you,and your weaknesses. Instead of people and environments being impacted by the weak and impotent shadow you carry on your own, they will be impacted by the shadow of the Holy Spirit who is in you and rests on you.
