One Thing 9/8/14

S. S. 1:16 – 17 How handsome you are my beloved, and so pleasant! Indeed our couch is luxuriant!
Song 1:17 “The beams of our houses are cedars,
Our rafters, cypresses.

As already mentioned, the “couch” is the place of intimacy in our relationship with Jesus. Notice the term “OUR” couch, not “my” couch, or “His” couch. This is the set apart place where our fellowship time, and intimacy takes place. We also said that the word “luxuriant” means “fresh, growth, and life.” So many Christians think that the Christian Life, and growth in the Christian life, is all about “doing,” when it actually about “being.” We are first and foremost called to “BE” in love, and to cultivate love with Jesus. We are called to “BE” in His presence; the result being that we begin to carry His presence on us. Of course we are called to serve Him, but our first service is to serve His lovesick heart, and from that place our service to others become acts of worship offered back to Him. You see it’s on that “couch” that we grow in likeness. It’s there that we stay fresh, and come alive in the presence of His beauty, again, and again. Education, bible study, and discipleship programs are such a blessing, but I know so many people that are deep in their knowledge of theology, and scripture, but are about a quarter of an inch deep in true Christlikeness. Without a life on the “luxuriant couch,” we will never really grow in the beauty of The Lord. Our great, and chief calling is “TO BE” in ever expanding intimacy with Jesus. If the “luxuriant couch” isn’t your favorite place, then Christ will never truly have first place. The more you spend time Beholding Him “there”, the more you will grow, and start looking like Him “here.”
