S. S. 1:16 – 17
How handsome you are my beloved,
and so pleasant!
Indeed our couch is luxuriant!
The beams of our houses are cedars, our rafters Cypresses.
The word “pleasant,” means “delightful, or deeply satisfying.” As we grow in confidence in His love for us, and He as begins to emerge as our favorite, we discover at deeper levels how delightful, and how completely satisfying His presence, and affections are. The couch in verse 16 speaks of the place of fellowship and intimacy. The Holy Spirit uses the word luxuriant to describe this place of intimacy and fellowship. The word”luxuriant” means “to grow, to be green, to be fresh, to be alive.” That place of intimacy where love sickness is nurtured is always fresh and alive and growing. Your time alone with the Lord should never be boring, or dull. In His presence are pleasures forever more. This is the thing that keeps us in the place of prayer for longer and longer seasons; pleasure, not duty. In His presence there are endless discoveries of His unveiled beauty. The discoveries are bigger every day.Life is just larger there. There are no restraints or restrictions in that Holy Narnia, called the Secret Place. It’s simply bigger on the inside, than it is on the outside. Life just becomes clearer there. The Secret place pulsates with life, and miraculous growth. In that environment we come alive, are refreshed, and miraculously grow. O how truly luxuriant our dwelling place is.
