Psalm 73:25-28
25 Whom have I in heaven but You?
And with You, I desire nothing on earth.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For, behold, those who are far from You will perish;
You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.
28 But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.
This has been for many years one of my life verses. As people who are created for His presence these verses are so full of life. Asaph declares that God’s nearness (His experienced presence) was His good. That word “good” is a Hebrew word that means “better.” His presence is simply better than anything this world has to offer. In the language of Song of Solomon, “Your love is better than wine.” There is no pleasure that compares to the pleasure of Hs presence. As a matter of fact, the writer says that with His presence he desires nothing on earth. Once you’ve apprehended Him and His glory, every other blessing on this earth is just extra. His presence is enough. We are so meant for Him that Asaph says in verse 25 that His great desire, his great longing for Heaven, is that God will be there. With all the amazing things that are to be experienced in Heaven, it’s His presence he anticipates. In other words, it’s His presence that makes Heaven, Heaven. Jesus said He is the way. That’s what makes the way to Heaven so heavenly. Like Paul, spend your life apprehending that for which you have been apprehended, and you were apprehended for His presence.
