Hebrews 11:23-27 NASB
[23] By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. [24] By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, [25] choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, [26] considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. [27] By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen. …
At the beginning of this chapter faith is defined for us. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. All these examples in this chapter, including the example of Moses that I listed in the Scriptures above, all examples of people who live by faith “seeing Him who is unseen.” Faith is being able to look with the eyes of our heart and seeing God in every situation even though nothing in our five senses would indicate any other reality than what our physical eyes see in front of us.
A W Tozer ssid, “a spiritual kingdom lies all about us, enclosing us, embracing us, altogether within reach, waiting for to recognize it. God himself is here waiting for our response to his presence. This eternal world will come alive to us the moment we began to reckon upon its reality.”
In those verses above it says that Moses acted “seeing Him who is unseen.” This really is the heart of what faith is all about, and that is the ability to see Him in every situation, circumstance, relationship, and temptation; waiting for us to see him, and to trust him as our victory. His presence, and his daily saving grace, is the only reality that matters in everything that we face, but seeing the one who is unseen separates those who live by faith moment by moment, from those who live in fear.
