One Thing 9/22/20 God’s goodness and purposes will flourish

Revelation 4:1-3 AMPC

In the midst of these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me like [the calling of] a war trumpet said, Come up here, and I will show you what must take place in the midst of these things. [2] At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with One seated on the throne! [3] And He Who sat there appeared like [the crystalline brightness of] jasper and [the fiery] sardius, and encircling the throne there was a halo that looked like [a rainbow of] emerald.

Regardless of what might be going on in your life personally, or what might be taking place circumstantially around you, the dominant reality for the Christian is that there is ONE sitting on a throne that is high and lifted up declaring what must take place in the midst of these things. Neither the enemy of our souls nor any human being is Lord of lords other than Jesus. Jesus lords and reigns over any other thing or being that tries to lord over us. In the book of the Revelation, God gives the apostle John vision of increasing human chaos, but it is imperative that even in the midst of chaos, John sees Jesus ruling from His throne. John saw Jesus with the appearance of the jasper stone (diamond) and the sardius (fiery red like a deep ruby), which speaks of His glory and His passionate, wholehearted love. John also saw a rainbow encircling the throne like an emerald in appearance. Rainbows always remind us of God’s promised mercy and goodness, and green speaks of flourishing life, while the circle reveals something that is perpetual and unending. In the natural, rainbows appear after a storm, and the emerald rainbow that encircles the throne of God reminds us that no matter what you might be going through or what might be going on around us externally, the One who is on the throne promises that life will come forth and flourish from the chaos. God never creates chaos, but God will cause life to come forth and flourish through the chaos. The emerald rainbow that encircles the sovereign Lord who reigns is God’s perpetual promise that we can trust Him. His mercy and goodness will prevail, and life will come forth and flourish.
