Galatians 1:15-16 NASB95
But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, was pleased [16] to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles …
Paul did not preach about Jesus. He preached Jesus, and there is a big difference between preaching Jesus and preaching about Jesus. To preach Jesus is to proclaim that He is the Christian life. In other words, it is to proclaim that Jesus is meant to be the origin of every Christian’s activity, not just the object of their activity.
The truth of our union with Christ is not a particular emphasis about the Christian life. Our union with Christ is the whole enchilada. It is the Christian life. It is really important that you notice specifically what Paul said in these two verses in Galatians 1. He said that God was pleased to reveal (unveil) His Son IN him, not to him. I love the way the Holy Spirit penned that through the apostle. It was God’s “pleasure” to reveal Jesus “in” Paul. When I first surrendered my life to Christ in 1976 often heard people talk about Christ being in my heart. Whenever I heard people share the gospel with others, they would always ask them if they would like to invite Christ to come live in their hearts. When I later discovered was that even though Christians believed Christ lived in them, they didn’t have a clue what that meant except that somehow by the Holy Spirit, Christ lived in them to help them live a good Christian life. Christ didn’t come to live in us to help us live a good Christian life. He came to live in us to live the good Christian life, and there is a big difference. Jesus didn’t come to give us hope; He is our hope. Jesus didn’t come so that we would be better selves; His presence in us constitutes a whole new self that’s not on the road of improvement, but on the glorious path of manifestation. The Christian life is not trying to be like Him. It is manifesting Him in all of His glory. Christ in you as the hope of glory; for, when Christ who is your life is manifested, then you are manifested with Him in glory. Our inclusion into the life that Jesus lives is the gospel. There is no other.
So in light of all that, and in light of the fact that it is God’s pleasure to reveal Christ in us, have you experienced that revelation. Has Father, by the Holy Spirit, revealed Christ in you as the only one who can live the Christian life successfully? If not, then ask God to do that. He’s not reluctant to reveal Christ in you. It brings Him immense pleasure.
