John 8:28 Jesus therefore said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.
John 8:29 “And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.”
In unearthing some powerful realities to Jesus’ walk in the Spirit we’ve discovered two things so far; first, Jesus loved His life on Earth always delighting in His Fathers will. He never did anything on His own initiative, and His surrender was a life of affection offered to His Father. Secondly, He lived everyday with a sense of destiny.
Thirdly, in these verses Jesus said that He who sent Him was with Him. He said the Father had not left Him alone. Jesus in absolute surrender didn’t just believe that every moment was a moment of history waiting on Him to arrive, but He knew the Father’s presence with Him in all those moments. Not only did He know the full joy and pleasure of the Father’s presence, He also experienced
by faith the Father’s activity through Him in everything the Father called Him into. Jesus said that He was in the Father, and the Father was in Him. In John 14 Jesus makes it clear that it was the Father who did the work through Him. As the Son of Man this was His rest, in that He knew for every moment of destiny that awaited Him the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, was with Him, and in Him, prepared to spring into action. It is so awesome to live with a sense of destiny in the big and the mundane things of life experiencing Jesus’ presence, which lifts everything up into the realm of the extraordinary, and knowing in total confidence that in each moment He is living through you and is releasing in you His ability to deal with each moment and event, again whether big or small. That’s how He lived in relationship with His Father, and is gloriously how He has called us to live in relationship to Him.
