John 14:13 “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14 “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
Yesterday we talked about Christ’s union with His Father and our union with Christ. Think of John 15 and the language used there concerning The vine and the branches. Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. Branches aren’t separate entities connected to the vine, they are a part of the vine. The vine includes root, stem, branch, leaves, and fruit. That is Union. Think about this union relationships bearing on prayer. If I go to the bank and go through the drive through and reach out my arm and hand the Teller a check to be cashed, the Teller can’t refuse to give the cash to my hand because they will only give the cash to Chuck and not my arm. My arm is part of me. To give the cash to my hand is to give the cash to me. When I pray, as someone in Union with Christ, In Jesus’s name, can the Father refuse the Branch, willing only to bless the vine. Think about that reality. Of course to pray in His name, as someone in Union with Him, is to pray for what’s in His heart and mind. In others words to pray according to His will, which increasingly dominates those who are surrendering to their Union In Christ. Don’t water down those two verses above. Allow your holy imagination to run wild.
