One Thing 8/6/18

Psalm 119:114 NASB

You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word.

Psalm 119:18 NASB

Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your word.

These are two great verses that give us insight into life behind the veil, and an awesome prayer to pray in that secret place of intimacy and encounter, that is prayer.

I love prayer being descibed as “Hiding Place” where we wait for His word. We live in a world where Cosmic conflict in the spirit realm is always going on around us, and Ephesians 6 makes it very clear that there are some days that are particularly evil. Ephesians says that during those seasons of evil days we must stand firm. A number of times Paul repeats himself in those verses of in Ephesians 6, concerning standing firm. He doesn’t say that we are called To attack desiring to win a victory, but instead we are called to stand firm in a victory already won 2000 years ago at the Cross. I find that in the hiding place of intimacy and prayer that the Lord always speaks wonderful things to me from his word that reinforces my consciousness of the victory that’s mine in Christ so that I’m able to go out once again from the hiding place into the battle, standing firm in the triumph of Christ. I find that prayer has become much more a time where God speaks to me, than me speaking to God. I’m not saying, of course, that we are not supposed to speak in prayer, because I passionately believe and practice personal worship, petition, and intersession in my time in the Hiding place, but the most important thing that happens to me in that place, where I need to hide from being weary standing firm in the battle, is getting a fresh word from him, and he always speaks one. Listen to what Ezekiel says in chapter 2:1, “And as He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet…” Isn’t that a great verse that carries a great explanation of what happens in the hiding place when God speaks a word to your heart. No matter how downtrodden you may be, when God speaks a fresh word into your heart it always results a fresh release of the Holy Spirit within, that’s set you on your feet spiritually, and therefore, mentally, emotionally, and even physically.
