Ephesians 6:13 NASB95
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
Have you discovered that some days are more evil than other days? I don’t mean by that necessarily that circumstances on certain days can be more difficult than other days, though it could involve circumstances. I’m primarily talking about spiritual warfare. There are just some days when the enemy stirs up your flesh, and you find yourself in great battles spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. What do we do during those especially difficult days when evil seems to be blowing like a strong wind in our direction? According to Ephesians 6:13, we are to “take up the full armor of God” so that we will be able to stand firm and resist the enemy and the desires of the flesh victoriously. If you put on a suit of armor, it can be said about you that you are in the armor. Because you are, Christian, you are in Christ, and the full armor of God is Jesus. That’s why it says in verse 10 at the beginning of Paul’s admonition concerning spiritual warfare, “Finally, be strong IN THE LORD (Jesus), and in the strength of His might. Jesus is God’s armor. Regardless of what kind of day you might have, as a Christian, you are always in Christ and are called to abide in him, but in those evil days, it is important that we stand firm in our abiding in Christ because the enemy is desperately trying to get you off your mark which is your union with Jesus. Look at what Romans 13:12-14 says and fit that into the narrative of putting on or taking up the armor of God; “The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand. Let us, therefore, lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.”
The words “put on” literally mean “to slip into.” When evil days come, and they will, it is important that you remember to practice the consciousness that you are in Christ. That is, mentally “slip into” all that he is, and stand firm, trusting him as your victory, and you will find yourself resisting the enemy in the “strength of his might,” not the weakness of yours.
