S.S. 4:7 “You are altogether beautiful my love, and there is no defect in you.”
After affirming her emerging maturity in verses one through five, she declares that she’s retreating to the secret place; seeking, in His presence a deeper surrender, and greater Christlikness. He then declares, in light of her passion to pursue Him; longing for more of Him; that she has a perfect heart towards Him and therefore she has no flaws as far as He is concerned. He tells her that she is altogether beautiful in His sight.
In Athens, Paul told the philosophers that we were created to seek God, because in Him we live and move and have our being. I think most Christians, and especially Christian leaders make the Christian life so complicated. Everybody seems to have the key; or have the secret to living the successful Christian life, but the truth is God has made it very simple. He created us to seek Him, and living in His presence causes us to BECOME what He has created us to BE. Wouldn’t it be crazy if it was basically that simple; SEEK GOD. She was growing, as revealed in S.S. 4:5, yet again, her response was simply to seek Him more. This what He sees as a “altogether beautiful.” At the Cross Jesus cried, “I Thirst,” echoing God’s infinite to love us and be loved by us. A long for Him, and to give our lives to seek Him, is to be a person after His heart, and positions us for transformation. Colossians 2:19 says, ‘hold fast to the head and you’ll grow a growth that is from God.’ His way, at His pace. All we have to do is want Him. Nothing in God needs us, but remakably everything in Him wants us. God wants to be wanted back.
