Twenty-five times in the New Testament, Jesus is referred to as a lamb; only once is he referred to as the lion from the tribe of Judah. Each of the 25 times where Jesus is referred to as a lamb, the Greek word for “Little Lamb” is used. In Revelation 13:5, we are told that Jesus was the “little Lamb” who had been slain from the foundation of the world. Before there was ever a problem, God had already provided a solution, and that solution was to be a little Lamb slaughtered. Just think, God’s solution for conquering the reign of sin, Satan, and the evil brokenness that humanity carries because of the reign of sin was a little Lamb. Couldn’t God have thought of a more powerful weapon than a little Lamb? The answer to that question is, of course, NO! There is no more powerful weapon than the tender, vulnerable heart of God manifested in Christ. At the cross, God’s tender heart of love – His meekness – overcame all of the enemies of God. In the little Lamb slain, the reign of sin was overcome, and in the resurrection of the little Lamb, a whole new humanity in union with the little Lamb came forth. According to Revelation 6, the wrath of the little Lamb who sits on the throne was poured out on sin, Satan, and every expression of the enemies’ oppression. God’s tender heart of love was slaughtered that the whole world might be made new. The cross did not change God’s heart toward you; it changed your heart toward God, by revealing the true nature of God’s heart revealed in the slain Lamb.
