Daniel 2:22, “It is he who reveals the profound and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.”
Song of Solomon 3, Behold it is the traveling couch of Solomon; 60 mighty men around it, of the mighty men of Israel, all of them are welders of the sword, expert in war; each man has his sword at his side, guarding against the terrors of the night.
Night terrors are one of the things that people struggle with the most and I’m not talking about terrifying dream but experiencing experiencing the terror of what is going on in the darkness. I’m talking about when we are going through different battles and really not being able to see all that is going on, are sure of how things are going to turn out.all the uncertainties. That sense of not being in control, because you do not know what is happening with all the moving parts in any particular situation. Anxiety is almost always based on the Terra of uncertainties. These are the night terrors that I’m referring to. The hidden things; those things that are happening in the darkness that we cannot see. Those things that we cannot control., These two verses tell us that God knows what is in the darkness so it is okay if we don’t know as long as he knows, and by the way, He is an expert at war. Whatever battle you might be going through he knows what you don’t know and he sees what you can’t see. I don’t know about you, but this is one of the things that the enemy attacks me with, because my flesh always wants to know what’s going on, because I somehow think if I can know what’s going on then I’m in control and then I don’t have to be afraid. The good news, is that I don’t have to know because whatever is seen or unseen, he is an expert at that problem and he has committed himself to guarding us against the terrors of the night, therefore I do not have to fear them. He sees them and he’s the expert at dealing with them and I can rest in his expertise and protection.
John 16:33 AMP
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]”
It is interesting to me that Jesus first alerts us to the fact that in this world there are going to be struggles; battles to be fought, but then he says “to be of good cheer; be filled with joy.” What a strange contradiction that Jesus would first warn us about the fact, or alert us about the fact that they’re going to be hard places that we have to walk through, but then tells us to be joyful about it. The reason he can tell us to be joyful about it is because He, in his humanity, face everything that you and I will ever face and he overcame and therefore being in him we can be confident of the fact that whatever battle we are going through, even though we can’t see into the darkness, He does because he’s already fought that battle and he is an expert at it and he sees everything that’s coming and there are no surprises to him. He simply invites us to rest in him, the one who sees all, and the one who is an expert at war.
As a matter of fact, not only will the terrors of the night not destroy you, the Lord will use the night seasons to cultivate treasures, spiritual treasures to be deposited in your life, as you learn to abide in the one in whom light always dwells.
