I posted all of these verses because I wanted you to see a particular theme when the word “hour” is used. In Luke 22 at Gethsemane, when they came and took Jesus captive, He said “This is yours and the powers of darkness hour,” but all the other times he referred to it as “this hour, the hour, or My hour.” Jesus was setting the enemy up, because He was allowing the powers of darkness to advance in their desire to stop Him, and in that sense, he was saying to the Roman soldiers who were being used by evil, and of the powers of darkness that “you are hour has come,” while the whole time he knew that it was actually His hour that was at hand. We live in a world where the enemy is active and evil is real, but the truth is in the Hour of Christ all authority was stripped from the powers of darkness. His “hour” was his death, burial, and resurrection, and in the Christ event, though the enemy thought he was accomplishing victory, he was actually suffering the most humiliating, and public defeat. Satan was trying to make a fool out of Jesus through the public humiliation of crucifixion, but the truth is, Satan overplayed his hand as he always does, and he was made the fool instead. It is important that you understand that whenever it appears that the enemy is having his “hour” in your life, whether through direct assault, or using people to assault you, fail you or disappoint you, the truth is, Jesus will make it His “hour,” and He will win the day. In the end, Jesus said that in this hour of great darkness, He and the Father would be glorified. You can rest, and rejoice in that reality. No matter how dark the hour may be, remember, Jesus specializes in allowing the enemy to think his hour is at hand, when in the end what will be revealed is the glory of God, and the purposes of God prevailing accelerating in your life.
