S.S. 1:4 “Draw me after you and let us run together!
The king has brought me into his chambers.”
This particular line has always fascinated me, and exhilarated my heart. Let your imagination run wild. Think of what it must be like
to be drawn into the ever deeper chambers of God’s heart. But the truth is, this is not some special invitation for just a select few, instead it
is actually God’s desire for all of us, but only the Hidden Ones take up his invitation. This is what God created us for, and what redemption
is all about. 1 Corinthians 1:9 says this, “God is faithful, through whom you are called into fellowship with His son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The word fellowship here seems to indicate a casual kind of relationship, but the word represents anything but casual. This particular
word actually means to partake of, to intermingle, to share and participate in. Jesus said in John 15 that we were to abide in Him, and
He would abide in us. God had called us to make His presence out home and for our presence to be His home. This is at the heart of
what the word fellowship means. When Jesus defined eternal life in John 17:3, he defined it as knowing him; knowing God.
As I’m sure you are aware of, the word knowing there is not head knowledge, but intimate mutual experience. I often hear Western Christians
warning Christians to not get hung up on experiences, but true Christianity IS an experience of God, and Him experiencing us. That is the
testimony of the whole Bible. Eternal life is life as it’s lived in heaven, it’s not just about duration, it’s a quality of life that’s lived in heaven. Jesus referred to it as life and life more abundant. In John 8 he said it was the above life, life. At the heart of life as it lived in heaven, is being in the presence of God and experiencing Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 – 10 says, “For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us that, whether we are awake or asleep (alive in this world, or alive in Heaven) we may live together in fellowship with Him.” Psalm 73 says that the nearness of God is our good. Psalm 17 says that we are satisfied with His likeness, or presence. Psalms 16 – 11 says that in His presence there is fullness of joy, and in His right hand are pleasures for evermore. We were created for His presence, and only in His presence are we satisfied. Every new chamber moves ever inward into deeper and more vivid experiences of His presence.
Every chamber is bigger, and more beautiful. Being brought into His chambers is the most extraordinary adventure you’ll ever experience.
Nothing the world has to offer can compare. It is true, that it’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. We can choose to live fascinated
with His likeness, or frustrated with life.
