Romans 9:33 NASB95
just as it is written, “Behold, I LAY IN ZION a STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, And HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”
Romans 10:11 NASB95
For the Scripture says, “Whoever BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”
Twice within the span of 11 verses, the Holy Spirit tells us that those who believe or trust in Jesus will not be disappointed. The word “believe” in both of those verses is in the present tense, which represents continual action in the present. In other words, if you continually trust in Jesus, then you can continually live a life that’s disappointment free. That is a remarkable promise because we live in a fallen world, and disappointing things happen at least at some level almost daily. Yet here is this ridiculously amazing promise that in the midst of a fallen world, we can live free from disappointment. Wouldn’t that be wonderful; to never feel disappointed again for the rest of your life? I am not saying that things don’t go sideways or that people don’t go sideways sometime. Jesus promised in John 16, “In this world, you shall have tribulation,” but then he said, “be of good cheer.” Paul said in 2 Corinthians 7 that even when he experienced sorrow, he was always rejoicing. Philippians 4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice, for the Lord is at hand.” You see, Jesus invites you to trust Him and His reign of grace on your life and in your life. So even though disappointing things can happen, you don’t have to ever live with a disappointed heart. Jesus doesn’t, and He is your life. Jesus isn’t encouraging you to try hard not to be disappointed so that your attitude will be pleasing to Him. Your indwelling Lord Jesus simply wants you to surrender to His relentless hope–filled outlook. He wants you to enjoy and participate in the otherness that that He is in you. The resurrected Christ want you to enjoy a resurrected new Christ filled perspective about everything. We can trust in the one “who works all things after the counsel of His will.” Ephesians 2:11. One of my favorite verses, and I have a lot of them, is Romans 15:13, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Even when there are clouds and thick darkness, the Lord reigns – Psalm 97:1 – 2. If you are willing to allow His government (rule) over your life to continue to increase, then there will be no limit to your experience of His peace in your life. “There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace.” Isaiah 9:7.
