One Thing 6/13/22 Participating in His glory

Colossians 3:4 NASB95

When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

A better translation of Colossians 3:4 would sound like this; “Every time Christ, as your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.”

I like the way the Passion paraphrase puts it. I’m going to include verse three also because it creates a better flow of thought.

Colossians 3:3-4 “Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ. [4] And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed, for you are now one with him in his glory!”

I love the new American Standard Bible because I think it is clearly the most accurate translation, but the way they translate verse four leaves out a little nuance that I think is important to notice. The NASB says, “When Christ, WHO IS OUR LIFE, is revealed,” when more accurately, it should read, “Whenever Christ AS OUR LIFE, is revealed (manifest).” Christ is the Christian life in every believer, and whenever Christ “as our life” (the very source and origin of our every act, thought, and word) is manifested, then we get to participate in the glory of His revealed person. We were created for this. All creation glorifies God, but only human beings were created to contain, reveal, and thus participate in the glory of God. We are persons created to contain His person. We were therefore created to contain, enjoy, and manifest His glory. Can you imagine such an existence? This original plan is what Christ came to restore through His death, burial, resurrection/ascension. Our union with Christ is that restoration. We were born again in Christ for nothing less then to enjoy all that He is and all that He has, and we should never be deceived into settling for anything other than the full throttled experience of Christ living His life, and manifesting His glory through the story of our daily lives. If it sounds better than you ever imagined them you have heard the true gospel. If the Christian life is something that you can manage, then you’ve been robbed of the rivers of living water groaning to flow out of your innermost being. Living from Christ; not for Christ.
