1 The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s.
2 “May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!
For your love is better than wine.
3 “Your oils have a pleasing fragrance,
Your name is like purified oil;
Therefore the maidens love you.
4 “Draw me after you and let us run together!
The king has brought me into his chambers.”
“We will rejoice in you and be glad;
We will extol your love more than wine.
Rightly do they love you.”
These first few verses of Song of Solomon chapter 1 are so exciting to me, and so challenging. Can’t your holy imagination just dream of what it must be like to so love Him, and to be so surrender to Him that you long for opportunities to bring his heart pleasure through extravagant acts of obedience. Life is never the same once He comes to you and rescues you out of the waste places to waste your life on Him. It reminds me of the apostle Paul in second Corinthians chapter 5 when he said I know I appear to you as a madman, but I’m not really mad, I’m just being controlled by the love of Christ. When she says in verse two I’ve come to this new place of surrender and longing to please You because I’ve discovered that Your love is better than wine, she is saying nothing has exhilarated my heart like Your love; nothing has inebriated my heart like Your love Jesus. Just like at Pentecost, when once filled with the Holy Spirit, the people observed the behavior of the Christians, and thought that they were drunk in the middle of the day. We desperately need people who have been so taken by the love of Jesus that the world sees them inebriated in Christ, as opposed to being inebriated by all the things the world has to offer. In Zachariah chapter 9 God gives an account of Him capturing the hearts of his people and what will happen in them. In verse 15 He says” and they will drink and be boisterous as with wine.” The word boisterous means” to be aroused, to roar, to howl, to make an uproar.” I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend my life shuffling my way through eternity . I want Jesus to so come and steal away my heart that I’ll howl for Him, and roar for Him, and live with an aroused and fully awakened heart because of Him, and make an uproar for him, because I’ve been exhilarated, and inebriated by his presence and his love. The whole world, and sadly many Christians are looking for things outside of Jesus to exhilarate their hearts, when it’s in His presence that fullness of joy, and pleasures forever more are found. DRINK DEEPLY from the love of God.
