I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. (Ps. 27:13-14)
I love these two verses in Ps. 27, because they give us hope and instruction in the midst of the battle. First, if you are in a raging battle, you need to know that you WILL see the goodness of God manifested in your situation. God is good and He will reveal His goodness on your behalf in His time, which by the way, is always perfect timing. Now it doesn’t mean that things will happen the way you thought they should all the time, but it does mean when it’s done, you will praise Him for His goodness. Believing that, is imperative to keep from having a despairing heart. A despairing heart, becomes a paralyzed playground for the enemy.
The next verse is the challenge. WAIT on the Lord!!! We are not very good at waiting, because we want to feel better now. There are a lot of skirmishes between believing you will see the goodness of God and seeing it in the natural. By the way, why does God make us wait? The simple answer is, He is really smart, and is accomplishing multi level stuff, both in us, and around us, that has eternal and redemptive value, in the process of revealing His goodness. Here is the instruction for us in how to wait while the skirmishes are going on around us; “Be strong and let your heart take courage.” Well, how do you do that? By standing in the Believing that you started in. It’s easy to start in faith in a thing, but the challenge is standing in the faith you started in. You don’t just wait, you wait in FAITH. No matter how long it takes, or how many twists and turns occur, you must courageously walk by faith and not by sight. Faith is the victory. If you’ve got faith in a thing, you’ve already got the victory in that matter even though you don’t see the victory fully manifested yet in the natural. You are either standing in faith in the goodness of God,(which doesn’t just describe His character, it describes His behavior) and overcoming the world, or all the stuff in this fallen world is overcoming you.
Have a great Pentecost waiting and believing.
