One Thing 5/2/16

S.S.5:10 “My beloved is dazzling and ruddy, Outstanding among ten thousand.”

These particular verses in Song of Solomon express aspects of the beauty of the Lord Jesus the Shulamaite has discovered so far. David said in Psalm 27 that his one desire, and pursuit was to behold the beauty of the Lord and to talk to the Lord about his discoveries. This, of course, will be a dialogue that David will engage in throughout the endless ages.

In verse 10 she exults in her Beloved, praising Him that He is both glorious in His divinity, and ruddy (earthy) in His humanity. He is both so “other,” and so “familiar.” He is so “holy” as God, and yet so “tender,” as one who was tempted in every way just like us. He is so “big” for us as the one we look to in our need, and He became so “small” for us as the one who hears our confession in our failure. He is truly outstanding among ten thousand, and “fairer than the sons of men.”
