One Thing 5/27/20 Righteousness is a Who not a what

1 Peter 2:24

and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the Cross, so that we might be removed from sins and live THE RIGHTEOUSNESS;  by whose wound you were healed.

Ephesians 1:19-20 TPT

I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of GOD’S POWER made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you! This is the MIGHTY POWER [20] that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm!

The Greek word “power” is the word that literally translated simply means “ability” but is used in the New Testament to speak of the supernatural ability of God. So when we talk about living in the power of the resurrection, we are simply talking about living by the ability of God in Christ that is so big it could conquer death in the resurrection of new life.

In the 1 Peter passage, I emphasized the words “the righteousness” because that is the way it is written in the original language. The translators left out the article, but it was important for the Holy Spirit to put it there so that we would understand that we weren’t just re-created in the resurrection of Christ to walk in righteousness, but we were created in Christ to “live THE righteousness.” To live THE righteousness is to abide in Christ, realizing and manifesting the righteousness of God in Him. You see we were not born again to try and struggle to live a good life, but we were born into union with His righteous life. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says that Christ became sin on our behalf that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. What would you rather experience, a life of sincerely doing your best, mixed with intermittent failures, to live for God, or a life of resting in His supernatural ability to live His righteous life? Remember, it does not say in that 1st in 2 Corinthians 5 that that Jesus died for us that we might be given righteousness so would have something to work with so that we can become a better version of ourselves since we are not Christians; instead, it says we “became” the righteousness of God in Christ. His righteousness is now part of our identity, and therefore to abide in my union with Him, and His righteousness is simply being my New Self. According to 2 Corinthians 3:9, living a life of sincerely trying your best to please God only brings about condemnation with occasional moments of experiencing His glory, but the life of abiding in His righteousness abounds in glory. A God approved person is not a person who performs for God but is a person through whom God performs. Jesus said apart from Me, you can do nothing.
