One Thing 5/22/19 CLOTHED WITH CHRIST

Acts 19:4 Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in (into)the name of the Lord Jesus

Galatians 3:27 NASB

[27] For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Everything in the Christian life is about the person of Jesus, and our inclusion in his life. His name represents His person, and nature. We weren’t just baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; We were Baptized into the Person of Jesus, and 2 Peter 1:4, says that we are partakers of His divine nature. That passage in Galatians says that we were baptized, or placed into the very person and life of Christ, and therefore we have actually clothed ourselves with Jesus. To be “in Christ” isn’t just some theological position, but it is our actual relational identity with Jesus. We have been placed into his very life, and his life story to be lived out through our humanity on earth. Everything we do, and everything that happens to us must be seen from that perspective. Only then can you literally abide in Him, and in his divine nature in doing all things, and in facing all situations, and temptations. This is the truth about who we are in Christ, and the resources of Him that is available to us in facing life in this fallen world. If I am in Christ then when temptations come my way, I can trust Him to conquer; and in every responsibility, and opportunity I can trust Him, in whom I abide, to overcome. If I am in him, and have therefore clothed myself with Him, then I can claim union with His peace, joy, surrender, faith, righteousness, holiness, etc. The sheer simplicity of the gospel is mind-boggling. I’m a new creation because I have clothed myself with Christ, having been baptized into his life. How enormous that is. When Jesus told the disciples in John 14 that he was going to the Cross to provide a place for them, I dont think they had a clue how large that place was gping to be. From this side of the Cross we can honestly now say with the Psalmist that the Lord has “set our feet in a large place.” Many decades ago the founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination, A. B. Simpson, wrote a great book called “The Larger Christian Life.” What a great title for a book that was written about being in Christ, because the Christian life is much LARGER than most Christians could ever imagine.
