One Thing 5/12/20 “His Hour”

HIS HOUR – –

John 2:4 – “My hour has not yet come.”

John 7:6 – “My time is not yet come”

John 7:8 – “for my time is not yet fully come

John 7:30 – “so they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.”

John 8:20 – “These words he spoke in the treasury as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.”

John 17:1 – “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you.”

Matthew 26:18 – “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, the teacher says, my time is at hand.”

John 12:23-24-32, “And Jesus answered saying, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly truly I say to you unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies it remains by itself alone, but if it dies it bears much fruit..,’ now my soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father save me from this hour’? But for this purpose, I came to this hour. Father glorify your name. There came, therefore, a voice out of heaven: ‘I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.’ The multitude, therefore who stood by and heard it were saying it had thundered; others are saying an angel has spoken to him. Jesus answered and said, ‘This voice has not come from my sake, but for your sakes. Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world shall be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself’. But he was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which he was to die.”

Five different times in the first half of the gospel of John we are told that the hour or the time of Jesus had not yet fully come, and eventually when we get to John chapter 12 just before the crucifixion, Jesus begins to announce the fact that His hour had now arrived. He makes it very clear that his hour would involve Him being glorified, much fruit coming forth, and judgment on this world because the ruler of this world will be cast out. Jesus came to destroy the reign of evil and the evil one and to make all things new. In Luke22 Jesus spoke to those who came to take him captive at Gethsemane and said: “This is your hour in the power of darkness,” (Luke 22:53), but Jesus said this knowing that in the context of the enemy gathering evil to try to destroy Him, JESUS ‘OUR OF GLORY would actually be manifest. It is important to remember, as is modeled in the resurrection, when the enemy thinks he is accomplishing his greatest victory Jesus always turns the table and reveals the greatest victories of God instead. Since the Fall of man in the garden of Eden, heaven, and earth have been waiting for the revelation of the “HOUR OF THE MESSIAH” to be realized. The evil dominion of darkness, and the demonic virus of sin had reigned on the earth since the Fall of man, and now at the Hour of Christ that reign would cease. When verse 32 says that Jesus was saying these things He was saying then to indicate the kind of death he was to die, because the type of death he was to die was going to result in the destruction of evil and the resurrection of a whole new world, and a whole new humanity. Joel refers to this “HOUR” of Christ as the “Great and Terrible Day of The Lord.” The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus stands as the greatest day in human, and world history, but the terrible day for the powers of darkness. It kind of makes you want to seeing the words of “All hail, King Jesus.

There was a moment when the lights went out
When death had claimed its victory
The King of Love had given up His life
The darkest day in history
There on a cross, they made for sinners
For every curse His blood atoned
One final breath and it was finished
But not the end we could have known

For the earth began to shake
And the veil was torn
What sacrifice was made
As the heavens roared

All hail King Jesus
All hail the Lord of Heaven and earth
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Savior of the world

There was a moment when the sky lit up
A flash of light breaking through
When all was lost He crossed eternity
The King of life was on the move

For in a dark cold tomb
Where our Lord was laid
One miraculous breath
And we’re forever changed

All hail, King Jesus
