One Thing 4/1717

Jn. 19: 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Eph. 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

The phrase “It is finished,”and  “by grace you have been saved,” are both in the perfect tense. The perfect tense indicates, ‘completed action in the past with continual present results.’ In other words, what was totally done, continues in the present moment.
The remarkable phrase “It is finished,” spoken by Jesus covers a lot of spiritual territory. The word “finished” literally means- to bring to an end, complete, fulfill: —accomplished. Jesus accomplished a lot on the Cross–Resurrection event. One of the things “it is finished” means that the power of sin over your life has come to an end. Sins defeat has been accomplished. I don’t just mean the guilt of sin that He took on himself at the Cross; but I also mean the very power of sin has been removed from your life. Because The declaration of Jesus from the cross that “it is finished” is spoken intentionally by Jesus in the perfect tense, then you have every right when temptation rises up in you, to join your voice in faith with his declaration that “it is finished” with that particular sin; and that His grace is saving you in that moment from sins power, just as His grace saved you from sins guilt, the moment you gave your life to Christ however long ago that was. It is the same grace (the totally free activity of omnipotent of God) that saved you that is saving you now. All you have to do is surrender your right to that sin, and start declaring by faith your deliverance, and His saving grace. Surrender says that you are ready to be “finished with it;” and from the Cross Jesus declares that by his grace “it is already finished with you.” Faith is not begging for that to be true, or hoping that that could be true; instead, faith believes that it is true. Again, faith is not believing that something can be; faith trusts that it is, and praises in light of that fact.
