Obedience is such a gift to us. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to obey. When you really love someone you find yourself always looking for opportunities to express your affection. Of course we express our love verbally, but those sacrificial acts, and gifts we surrender to love, are so powerful. This is what obedience is all about. It’s delight, not duty, that moves His heart. I always tell young men, who are about to marry, that one of the best way to continue to romance their bride over the years after marriage is to give her roses on Tuesday. Why Tuesday, because Tuesday isn’t expected. It’s not a day of obligation, like anniversary, birthday, etc. Roses on Tuesday say more than “I love you,” it says “I really, really love you.” Jesus said in John 14, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Obedience is an act of love. It is an act of affection. It’s giving Him roses on Tuesday. I want to shower Him with obedience, and the more extravagant the price, the better.
