Song 4:2 Your teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes
that have come up from the washing,
all of which bear twins,
and not one among them has lost its young.
Song of Solomon 4:2 (The Passion Translation) “When I look at you I see How you have taken My fruit And tasted My Word. Your life has become clean and pure, Like sheep washed and newly shorn. You now show grace and balance With truth on display.”
Wool in scripture can speak of the work of the flesh, (self effort) even in sincere effort to seek and serve The Lord.
Ezek. 44:17 When they enter the gates of the inner court, they shall wear linen garments. They shall have nothing of wool on them, while they minister at the gates of the inner court, and within.
Ezek. 44:18 They shall have linen turbans on their heads, and linen undergarments around their waists. They shall not bind themselves with anything that causes sweat.
Teeth speak of the ability to chew the Word. The Shulamite is learning how to let her spirit feed on the word of God, instead of just gleaning head knowledge. It is so fruitful to operate by revelation, instead of information. There is nothing wrong with gleaning information from the bible by doing intense study, but once we gather the information do we allow the Holy Spirit to speak the Word of The Lord to us. He said His words were Spirit and life. In other words, they are Spirirt taught, and they bring life, not just fascinating knowledge. When I mediate on scripture, I’m not primarily looking for more fascinating content; I’m looking for contact. Too much preaching today feeds the head, but starves the spirit. God is a God of communication and communion. He is extravagantly accessible, and He wants to meet you in His word. When we begin to approach the Word, not out of duty, but out of desire to hear His voice, and encounter His presence, then His word will wash us with cleansing and healing grace, and we will bear twins (abundant fruit) in our spiritual life. We have to learn that His Word is a supernatural bridge into His heart and ways, and we can’t just take from it; He has to give. We have to approach His Word with excited desperation, and anticipation, not just asking, but expecting Him to give from it by His Holy Spirit, for He promised that the Holy Spirit would be our tour guide into the deep things of God. Like the Shulamite, let’s start swimming in the deep end.
