Song 4:1 “How beautiful you are, my darling,
How beautiful you are!
Your eyes are like doves behind your veil;
Your hair is like a flock of goats
That have descended from Mount Gilead.
In the last half of verse one He affirms her commitment to follow Him , trusting in His leadership. The abundance of hair speaks of submission to and trust in an authority figure’s leadership. 1Cor. 11:15 “but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering.”
The goats speak of a stately walk. Prov. 30:29 ¶ There are three things which are stately in their march,
Even four which are stately when they walk: Prov. 30:30 The lion which is mighty among beasts
And does not retreat before any, Prov. 30:31 The strutting rooster, the male goat also,
And a king when his army is with him.
The word “stately”means, “dignified, majestic, impressive, and imposing.” Someone who is submitted to, and trusting in the leadership of Jesus carries a royal dignity, and an imposing authority in the spiritual realm. When you trust in His leadership and authority you carry authority. Authority comes from trusting in the leadership of the good Shepherd. Even Jesus, carried an authority, as Son of Man, because He trusted in, and was submitted to the authority of His Father.
