In Luke 22 we have the story beginning in verse 3 of Satan entering into Judas and then Jesus going the chief priest and plotting how to hand Jesus over to them to be killed. The next scene in the chapter is Jesus celebrating the Passover meal, which was actually the initial Eucharist, in the upper room. He says in verse 19 “this is my body which is given for you” He doesn’t say “This is my body which is taken from me;” instead, he says it is “given for you”, carrying the idea that he’s in control, at least Judas or Satan, or the chief priests are not in control. He then says in verse 21 and 22 “but behold, the hand of the one betraying me is with me on the table. For indeed, the Son of Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man for whom he is betrayed!”
Notice the idea, that even though the activity of Satan, and the activity of Judas, and the activity ofthe chief priests are referred to, Jesus makes it very clear that he is going as it has been determined, and that he is giving his life, it is not being taken from him. The point being, people were not in control of his life, and neither was the devil, but God was in control of his life, and therefore he was doing as he pleased. Jesus was in the father, and the father was in him, and therefore because he was completely yielded to the will of the father, Jesus was confident that the father was ordering his steps not Satan, nor people. As a Christian, you are in Christ and Christ is in you, and if you’re yielded to his will then you can be confident that people aren’t in control of your life, or your day, and neither is the devil. Even if you are experiencing the pain of betrayal, you can say like Jesus said, that the person who is betraying you, will have to answer to God, but you can be confident that your life is not in their hands, because you “are going as it has been determined,” and no one can stop it. As a matter-of-fact, God will use their actions just like he used Satan’s, the chief priests, and the actions of Judas, to move you along God’s predetermined plan for you.
