Song 4:9 “You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride;
You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes,
With a single strand of your necklace.
Song 4:10 “How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride!
How much better is your love than wine,
And the fragrance of your oils
Than all kinds of spices!
What an amazing two verses. Life altering, dream setting kind of stuff. Listen to what He, The One Who is Fairer than the Sons of Men, says about the value of our love to Him. He says our love is beautiful. The words “How beautiful” isn’t a question, it is a statement; a declaration. It’s like saying, Wow!! Your love is beautiful. Yes, we are in Christ, thus His sister, but we are His Bride and therefore our love moves Him in a unique way, like nothing else. Our love for Him will be how He measures our lives. It is what will be remembered in the ages to come. He doesn’t count our sins, but He does count our love. Wine, in the Song of Solomon, speaks of pleasure. God loves pleasure. He exists in an environment of unimaginable holy pleasure. Psalm 16:11 says, that in His presence there is fullness of joy, and that at His right hand there are pleasures forevermore. In His presence there is a river called, “The River of My Delights,” that we are all invited to drink from. In S.S. 4:10, not only does He say that our love is incredibly beautiful to Him, He also says that our love is better than wine. He is saying that our love toward Him has such value, and brings Him such pleasure, that nothing can compare. That is amazing. Our love is often so weak and immature, and yet in verse 9 He says just one glance from our eyes, one single strand of our necklace, just one moment of surrendered love, is His Pearl of Great Price. One moment of chosen love Ravishes His great heart; brings Him more pleasure than anything in the the created Heavens or Earth. Stunning!! This is our worth. This is our value. This is our purpose, meaning, and aim in life. This is our success. This is what will be remembered throughout eternity. How much did love Him. What was our hearts desire, and our hearts response through the moments of our lives. Did we chose to adore Him, regardless of the situations that make up our moments and days. Did we choose each moment, to IN LOVE, trust Him, surrender to Him, obey Him, and thus ravish His heart. Each moment counts. Your love, therefore your life, is as relevant, as important, as significant, no matter your situation or station in life or ministry, as anyone who has ever lived. Let that truth set you free to walk in your true nobility as the Bride of Christ today, even this moment. Each moment has eternal significance in this Divine Romance. It is true, O’ How Beautiful Is Your Love.
