Song 3:6 “Who is this coming up from the wilderness
Like columns of smoke,
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
With all scented powders of the merchant?
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
Matt. 13:45 ¶ “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls,
Matt. 13:46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
As Jesus comes to escort us victoriously through the wilderness of this fallen world He is scented with myrrh, and frankincense. He lived as an Overcomer when He walked the earth, and He died (the scent of myrrh) and rose again (the scent of frankincense) on our behalf, (2Cor.5:15).
Jesus comes to lead us through this wilderness with a third scent all over Him. He is scented with the powders of the merchants. The merchants who sold the scented powders handled the powders so much that they carried the scent on them.
Look at those to verses in Matt.13 and see how the merchant is a type of Jesus. The merchant, when finding a pearl of great value, sells all that he has to purchase that pearl. You and I are that pearl of great value, and Jesus joyfully gave all that He had to have us as His own. The scent of the powders of the merchant is all over Him. He held nothing back, and therefore in light of such proven love, can be trusted in His leadership as He escorts us safely through this wilderness. His decisions can be trusted, and the daily ordering of our steps can be rested in. He has already proven His love and commitment to us, and He can now be trusted to lead us in love. Perfect love casts out fear, and His perfect love was demonstrated on the Cross. We can live without fear in this crazy fallen world. He wants us to let Him take over, and victoriously run our lives as we journey through this wilderness, instead of us disastrously running them ourselves.
