One Thing 1/7/14

Song 7:5 “Your head crowns you like Carmel,
And the flowing locks of your head are like purple threads;
The king is captivated by your tresses.
Song 7:6 “How beautiful and how delightful you are,
My love, with all your charms!

Tresses is a word for long hair that is in ringlets, almost like twisted cords. Long hair is always a symbol in scripture for a surrendered, set apart heart. Samson’s nazarite vow being a classic example. Purple is the color for royalty. Also, the word “captivated” in verse 5 is a Hebrew word that means more than just enthralled, though it does mean that, it carries the idea of being “bound, captured, imprisoned.”
Having said all of that, you and I were created as royalty, to be the royal Bride of The glorious King of Kings. To Solomon, the Shulamite was the love of his life. His heart belonged to her, and he always saw her as the “most beautiful among women; the Rose of Sharon.” Of course Solomon is a type of Chist, and we, The Shulamite. We were created to be the love of Christ’s life; His Beloved, and His destined eternal Bride. He calls us altogether beautiful, awesome, perfect, and more extraordinary things in The Song of Solomon. I’ve often asked The Lord how He could say those things about me when He knows how imperfect I am. He, again and again responds, by reminding me that I am the love of His life, and that will never change. He has given His heart away to me, and He will never take it back. What He longs for is Him to become, in my heart, the love of my life. It always amazes me that every act of set apart devotion, and surrendered obedience toward Him captivates, and imprisons His heart. When we are redeemed, He restores us to our true royal identity, so that we, as the love of His life, can fulfill our royal destiny. More from the Song of Songs in the days ahead.
