Song 3:9 “King Solomon has made for himself a sedan chair
From the timber of Lebanon.
Song 3:10 “He made its posts of silver,
Its back of gold
And its seat of purple fabric,
With its interior lovingly fitted out
By the daughters of Jerusalem.
These posts of silver are like a railing that surrounds the seat so that, once seated, you can’t fall out. Silver always speaks of REDEMPTION in scripture. The power of redemption is something that we can hold onto, and trust in, as the Redeemed In Christ. It helps to understand the full meaning of the word “redemption,” so that we can fully appreciate what this scripture in The Song is really saying.
Ps.107:1-2 says, “Oh give thanks to The Lord, for He is good; for His lovingkindness is everlasting. Let the Redeemed of The Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,…”
Redemption involves forgiveness, but it means much more than that. It also means to “restore and overrule for good all the loss occasioned by sin,” and yet even more, for it means ” to restore, and overrule for good the whole situation, caused by sin.” He takes over the results of our sin, and makes them His responsibility to do something good with them. He commits to bring something precious out of the worthless. Redemption is full of compassion. It is full of LOVEKINDNESS. Redemption keeps from us from living in the sedan chair (in Christ) constantly haunted with guilt and shame. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are In Christ Jesus.”
1 Peter 1:19, says that we are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. When He placed us In Christ He purchased us with His blood, and thus bought us as His own, including our past. He owns our past and therefore you and I don’t have a right to look at our past apart from the blood of Christ. Imagine no more shame, because it doesn’t belong to us anymore.
WOW!!! Thank God we are safe and secure because of the posts of silver. More on redemption next time.
