Eph.1:18, ”I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might”
Col.1:12, ”giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”
We are called to participate in the Hope of His calling. We also are to share in His inheritance, so that we can walk in, and carry out His calling.
Let’s consider what His calling was as the Son of Man walking on this earth. Apart from His redemptive sacrifice which He alone could fulfill, John 1 says that no man has seen God at any time, but Christ “has revealed Him.” We also know that Jesus declared that in revealing the likeness of His Father, He also announced, and enforced the kingdom of God, thus destroying the works of the devil. Therefore His Calling was to reveal His Father’s likeness, and release the Kingdom. This is the calling that we are to participate in. As He revealed the likeness of the Father, we are called to reveal the likeness of Christ, and as His ambassadors, we too are called to announce, and enforce the kingdom, destroying the works of the devil.
We are equipped to fulfill this calling because we are privileged to share in His inheritance. Look at what John 16:14-15 says speaking of the ministry of The Holy Spirit, “He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine, and will disclose it to. All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore I said that He takes of Mine, and will disclose it to you.”
Jesus’ inheritance was everything that belonged to the Father, and I get to participate in that. All that He is I have, and all that He has is mine. Therefore, I can’t lack peace because I’ve inherited His peace. I can’t lack love because I’ve inherited His love. I can’t lack moral purity, because I’ve inherited His morality. I can’t lack anointing, because I’ve inherited His anointing. These are just examples of the inheritance of Christ that is mine and ours. Add whatever word that fits your need, and it is yours In Christ.
Now here is one of the best parts that’s revealed to us in Colossians 1. Verse 12 says that the Father has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the Saints. How do you qualify for an inheritance? Not by works, or by earning it. An inheritance isn’t a matter of deserving; it is only a matter of birth. Inheritance is a birthright. If you’re born with the right name, into the right family the inheritance is yours. The New Testament doesn’t just say that we were baptized in the name of Christ, but more often we’re told that we were baptized into the name of Christ. The moment of your new birth as a Christian, you were placed into Christ, bearing His name. Therefore the very moment you became a Christian, you inherited the very inheritance of Jesus thus possessing everything that He is and has. It is time that we start processing our possessions in Christ, and start appropriating our inheritance. Again, it’s not something you work for, or deserve; its is something you were born into. It is so sad to watch Christians living in spiritual lack, and defeat when they’ve been caring with them, and in them the whole time the full inheritance of everything Jesus is for everyone of their needs.
2 Cor. 8:9, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”
