- Psalms 139:7-12
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,”
12 Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.
Have you ever felt like you were drowning in your circumstance, overwhelmed, in the dark, or about to be overtaken? It can be a frightening experience when you think you walk alone but you never walk alone if you know Jesus Christ. He walks with you no matter where you find yourself. Whether your emotions are are high or low, whether you are where you should be or shouldn’t be, He is there with you and His hand will lay hold of you to lead you.
When you find yourself in those situations, you may be tempted to say, “MY situation is too overwhelming and too dark.” However the amazing news is that, in our darkest hour, it is not the least bit dark to Him. He sees as clearly as if it were day. When you are afraid to take the next step because you can’t figure out where you are or where you are going, He will lead you and you can be confident that He “sees” exactly where you are going when you can’t see at all. There isn’t any situation that is so dark, so overwhelming or so “out of control” that God can’t “see” to guide you through. As a matter of fact, He doesn’t just guide you through, He knows the end from the beginning and will get you the the place you need to be.
The rest of Psalm 139 lets us know that God is intimately acquainted with us and the things that make us anxious and cause us pain. He will literally teach us new ways to walk with Him that will bring life to us. He has promised us everlasting life that is abundant and free, and He is faithful to lead us in that way if we will but call out to Him. It is His delight to answer and take us by the hand! What an amazing God we have! Hallelujah!
I encourage you today to call out to God and take His outstretched hand so that you will know that you know, that you don’t walk alone. He is able to victoriously lead you through whatever you face. Remember, no matter how dark it is, the darkness is not dark to Him!
