Isaiah 26:3 ESV
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Song of Solomon 3:6-8 NASB95
“ What is this coming up from the wilderness Like columns of smoke, Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, With all scented powders of the merchant? [7] “Behold, it is the traveling couch of Solomon; Sixty mighty men around it, Of the mighty men of Israel. [8] “All of them are wielders of the sword, EXPERT IN WAR; Each man has his sword at his side, Guarding against the terrors of the night.
Those verses in Song of Solomon 3 are poetic and are a poetic description of being in Christ which is the safest place to be when it comes to spiritual warfare. Jesus and His heavenly host are experts in war; therefore, we don’t have to be. We live in a day, especially among us charismatic Christians, where spiritual warfare dominates our conversations, and the result has been that I often find Christians spending more time practicing the presence of the demonic because they’re trying to become experts at war instead of practicing the presence of Jesus. It seems as if we reduced Christianity to memorizing formulas that we can speak so that we can defeat the enemy. The truth is Jesus annihilated him at the cross, and he is now a trespasser on ground that does not belong to him. Are there times to remake decrees where we are confessing the promises of God and, more importantly, proclaiming the God of the promise? Of course, but the most important thing that a Christian can do when the enemy is attacking is to keep their mind on Jesus, who is the expert at any kind of war the enemy throws at us. If we will keep our mind on Jesus, restfully trusting in Him, then He will keep us in perfect peace in the midst of the fray. Christianity is a relationship with a person and not a formula for victory. Jesus and His finished work on the cross was the formula for victory, and the enemy has been publicly humiliated in his defeat. We can now trust in Jesus to enforce His victory one step at a time as we walk in the perfect peace of Christ. While we rest, He overcomes. Living from Christ, not for Christ.
