One Thing 12/20/22 Liberation from, not affirmation in our brokenness

“The word became flesh to forever live His divine life in our human nature; that we might forever live our human life in His divine nature.” Jesus descended into the hellish places of our brokenness that we might be seated in Him in the heavenly places, not one day, but in the here and now. It is important to remember that Jesus didn’t clothe himself in our hellish broken humanity so that we could be okay about living in our brokenness because Jesus identified with us. Jesus identified with our brokenness to set us free from the reign of sin and all of its ravages. The incarnation was the beginning of our liberation. Having been tempted in every way like us, Jesus understands our humanity and loves us fiercely when we fail, but He doesn’t understand when we think His incarnation is an excuse for us to become comfortable with our brokenness, in light of the fact that He has joined us to Himself so that we can experience the abundant life of wholeness He lives. Transparency about our weaknesses is not the epitome of spirituality. His strength being made perfect in our weaknesses is the measure of Christ likeness in our lives. Jesus did not come so that he could say to us, “I took all the muck and hellishness of your humanity into myself so that I could understand your brokenness, and you would feel comforted by the fact that I understand.” I came and lived as you for the explicit purpose of setting you free from the hellishness you in union with my risen life. “It was for freedom’s sake that I set you free.” It is good to celebrate your smallness if it bends you to celebrate His ALLNESS.
