One Thing 12/14/21 Mary’s childlike faith

Luke 1:34-35,37,45 NASB95

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” [35] The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. [37] For nothing will be impossible with God.” [45] And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

Our extremities are God’s opportunities. He is the God of the impossible, and everything about the Christian life is impossible unless the power of the Most High overshadows us. Allowing the Lord to perform the impossible in us, through us and for us, is the great joy of the Christian life that makes it a “life more abundant.” God didn’t just favor Mary; he also required of her something that was impossible for her to perform. It is important to remember that everything God requires of us is actually a promise to us because “faithful is he who calls you who also will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24). “I will cry to God Most High, to God who accomplishes all things for me (Psalm 57:2). Every command and every requirement from God is an exciting invitation to participate in the divine activity of God, who specializes in the impossible. It’s what he does by nature.

I love Elizabeth said to Mary in verse Luke 1:45, “blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what has been spoken to her about the Lord.” Even though God declared his favor over Mary and offered her the privilege of being the mother of the Messiah, the blessing was only realized because Mary believed. Mary offered herself in surrender by declaring herself to be the bondservant of the Lord, and she expressed her childlike faith by saying in verse 38, “be it done to me according to your word.” She was basically saying, “Lord, you said it; you do it.” She did not say, “be it done by me in light of your word.” She said, “be it done TO ME according to your word.” This is at the heart of the Christian life. Step-by-step, no matter what situation God has called you into, as we release the simple faith that says, “God you said it; you do it,” the divine activity of the God of the impossible is released in our lives. What if Mary hadn’t believed? She was only blessed because she did. Her faith did not make God do anything. Her childlike surrendered faith simply allowed God to do manifest his faithfulness to do the impossible. Living from Christ, not for Christ.
