One Thing 1/18/16

2Cor. 12:9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

Just think, not only was God not disgusted with my frailty and weaknesses, He was attracted to them. They provide a platform for Him to demonstrate His great power. The very things that I thought disqualified me from living a truly supernatural and victorious Christian life were the very things that positioned me to experience life and life more abundantly. Once this liberating truth is illuminated to a searching heart, life changes dramatically. In light of what God said, Paul was able to declare that he would rather boast about his weaknesses so that the power of Christ may dwell in him. The better translation for the word “about” would be the word “in.” Therefore, Paul was not necessarily saying that he was boasting about having weaknesses, but instead he was saying when confronted with his weaknesses, instead of feeling guilty and discouraged, he could boast in the power of God which would be demonstrated through his weaknesses. An example would be, if being confronted with fear, and the feelings that come with that, instead of giving into the fear, he could boast in, and claim the power of God to release supernatural courage in and through him in that moment or situation. It is the weaknesses in our fallen humanity that drive us to the Cross, by faith trusting Him for His ability to be completed, or actualized in our need. One of the most liberating things about this discovery for me many years ago was not just the manifestation of His power being revealed through my weaknesses, but I no longer felt so ashamed of being so needy.
