Song 2:15 ¶ “Catch the foxes for us,
The little foxes that are ruining the vineyards,
While our vineyards are in blossom.”
Song 2:16 ¶ “My beloved is mine, and I am his;
He pastures his flock among the lilies.
Song 2:17 “Until the cool of the day when the shadows flee away,
Turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle
Or a young stag on the mountains of Bether.”
When I use the term “separation,” I’m not referring to Christ literally leaving us. I’m talking about those times when there is a conscious separation of our experience of the presence of Christ. He is always with us, and of course, is always in us, but there are times when we don’t experience His presence because we have not dealt honestly with the little foxes. As I mentioned before if little foxes are left un-dealt with over a period of time they will eventually result in a mountain of separation in our conscious experience of the presence of Jesus. As verse 17 says, it’s as if shadows have become between us and Jesus.
The good news is that even when there seems to be mountains between us and Jesus He is able to be like a gazelle and leap over those mountains restoring us instantly to the place of intimate and deep fellowship. I believe the critical moment is in verse 16; having been warned to catch the little foxes, and now finding herself in a place with there seems to be mountains between her and her beloved, she remembers in that dark hour that her Beloved is Hers and that She is His, and nothing can change that. Of course, this is precipitated by honest confession and repentance, but it is this confession that reaffirms that nothing separates us from His love. In light of this confession of confidence in His love and Presence, not just the confession of sin, He comes to us experientially and brings a new day, as it says in the middle of verse 17, to our experience with him, as the shadows flee away. Never believe the enemies lies that the mountains are to big and that the shadows are permanent. His presence was always there. He has simply been waiting for you to own the little foxes and confess His love and presence. The moment you do, He will blow the shadows, that made His presence vague, away.
