Song 2:14 My dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the hiding places on the mountainside,
show me your face,
let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet,
and your face is lovely.
Song 2:16 “My beloved is mine, and I am his;
His presence is the only perfect fit you’ll ever know. You were made for Him, and His presence is where you belong. Every human beings greatest need is to belong. Belonging gives us a sense of identity and security, and fallen humanity will go to extravagant lengths to feel like they belong, or take destructive measures to cover up the empty feelings of not belonging. The truth is, and truth sets us free, the search for belonging can only be fulfilled in Him, for we were created to belong in His Presence, and as I said earlier, it is the only place that fits. We’ve discovered before that the word “lovely” in 2:14 means “to fit, to be home.” Also we saw that the “clefts of the rock” speak of being hidden in the presence of Christ. I’m just stunned at the significance of the confession of the Shulamite in verse 16, after being called to higher place of abiding in His presence. Listen again to those words of belonging and security; “My Beloved is mine, and I am His.” That confession is such a confession of healing and wholeness. It’s like a screaming shout of deliverance from “lostness,” and a powerful declaration of worth, identity and security. It’s hidden in the clefts of the rock that we come fully alive, and discover who we really are, and where we truly belong. It’s all found in Him. Col. 3:3 “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
