Song 3:6 “Who is this coming up from the wilderness
Like columns of smoke,
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
With all scented powders of the merchant?
Song 3:7 “Behold, it is the traveling couch of Solomon;
Sixty mighty men around it,
Of the mighty men of Israel.
Song 3:8 “All of them are wielders of the sword,
Expert in war;
Each man has his sword at his side,
Guarding against the terrors of the night.
This fallen wilderness is full of the “terrors of the night.” Those things that cause us to fear, and anxiety. The unknown, and the uncertain, and the overwhelming seem be around every corner.
Jesus didn’t just come to take us into His traveling couch and carry us safely through the wilderness of this fallen world; He came to carry us through victoriously. He walked through this world as an Overcomer, and He carries us through, in Him, once again as an Overcomer. The sixty Mighty men who all wield swords, and are experts in war speaks of Jesus The Victor who is our victory in this world. The Sedan chair, in which we intimately rest on Him, is an image of being In Christ. Because we are in Him, seated in the Heavenlies, we share His very life, and as we face each “terror in the night,” He who wields a sword, and is the expert at war, IS OUR VICTORY. There will be battles to fight, and terrors to face daily, on our way to our Heavenly Wedding, but we are in Him, resting on His breast, as He expertly fights every battle on our behalf. He is the Expert, therefore we can restfully watch Him win again, and again, one battle at a time. If you find yourself under attack by a “night terror,” simply lean into Him and pray this simple prayer from Ps. 45:3, “Gird thy sword on Thy side, O Mighty One, and in Thy majesty ride on victoriously.”
