Grace is more than the free gift of forgiveness; it is the free gift of victory. The law reveals the power of sin; and sin reveals the power of grace.
Rom. 5:20 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The principle of the law is that the harder we try the bigger we fall; but the reality of grace is that the harder we fall, the bigger Jesus is. Grace is much more than free pardon when we sin, it is the power of God freely given in the person of Jesus to not sin. I thank God that where there is abundance of sin, there is an abundant pardon; but I am also very grateful that where sin is abundant in its influence and pull, the grace of God in Jesus is more powerful, and able to lift me up and to keep me on a plane of victory. In light of this Romans 6:14 makes so much sense; “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.”
