Romans 15:18 NASB95
For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed,
We find our identity and self-worth in who we are in Christ, not in what we do for Christ. If you live for Christ, then your Christian life will be exhausting, but if you live from Christ, your Christian life will be exhilarating.
Acts 19:11 NASB95
God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,
Notice that this verse in Acts 19 says that it was God who was doing the performing by the hands of Paul, not Paul was doing the performing with the help of God. We often think that we express our sincere love for Jesus by doing our best for him when the truth is Jesus wants us to express our love for Him by surrendering to him so that he can live his best through us. Jesus is not looking to prop up our ability; he simply wants us to offer our availability. We are the body of Christ, and we need to acknowledge that and surrender to the extraordinary privilege of being the hands through which Jesus performs extraordinary things by being the heart through which Jesus loves, the mind through which Jesus thinks, the ears through which Jesus hears, the lips through which Jesus speaks, and the feet through which Jesus walks. Romans 12:1 says that when we surrender our bodies to Christ as a living sacrifice, it is worship, and it is our worship of surrender to his life within that ravishes his heart. Colossians 3 says that “Christ is our life.” That doesn’t mean that he is the most important thing to us (which, of course, he is). It means that he is the most important thing ABOUT us. Our identity and self-worth and our capacity to experience life and life more abundant are all found in our union with Christ. Christian growth and maturity are about discovering your true self in Christ. It is not about trying to become something. It is about seeing who you are in union with someone.
