S.S. 2:8 “Listen! My beloved!
Behold, he is coming,
Climbing on the mountains,
Leaping on the hills!
9 “My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he is standing behind our wall,
He is looking through the windows,
He is peering through the lattice.
10 “My beloved responded and said to me,
‘Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along.
The mountains and hills speak of obstacles both big and small.
For some it is hard to hear the voice of their Beloved calling them to rise up and follow Him to a higher place, because they’ve been convinced by the Accuser that there are too many obstacles between them and The Lord for them to qualify for any advance upward. Some of those obstacles can simply be because of unforeseen circumstances and the effect of the fall on others in their behavior toward us, and some can be by our own fault. The good news is that our Beloved discerns our hearts, and if He finds true repentance, where necessary, and genuine longing for “It All” in Jesus, then no obstacle, no matter how mountainous will keep The Love of Our Life from pursuing us and calling us to higher places in Him. His heart is so impassioned in His desire to harvest more of our love, and to carry us to those upward places He has prepared for us, that nothing can hold Him back from a longing heart. Mountains and hills don’t disqualify you for “The More,” only a lack of longing does, and even then He will never stop working to ignite the longing in us. Remember, Phil. 2:13, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
