John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
John 8:23 And He was saying to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.
Jesus sent us with the same mandate and the same possibilities that He had. He sends us to live a supernatural life, and to do supernatural stuff. In comparing Himself with the Pharisees He defined the kind of life He lived as a “life from above” life, and the Pharisees as a “life from below” life. Every person lives forever somewhere; either Heaven, or Hell, yet, especially John, describes the Christian life as Eternal Life. Again, everyone lives eternally, yet Christians received Eternal Life at their New Birth. Shift the way you think when you see the term Eternal Life in scripture to not be about chronology, or time, but quality. Eternal Life is the new life you received when you were Born Again. You received, by the incoming Holy Spirit, the Life From Above Life. To be filled with the Spirit is to simply allow that life to take over. For our language it would be better to think of the phrase Eternal Life, as Heavenly Life, or The Life of Heaven Life. That’s right, when you and I became Christians we received life that comes from Heaven, and has the supernatural quality of Heaven, so that we could be sent, revealing who Jesus is, doing what He did. How exciting!!!
