In Luke chapter 1 we are told of the events when Gabriel approached Mary and declared her to be the favored one of God. When the angel told her that she would conceive and give birth of the Messiah that must’ve blown Mary’s mind on several levels. For one, she was being told what every Jewish girl would love to hear, and that is she would be carrying the long-awaited Christ. Secondly, if true, all of her plans for her future with Joseph would likely be over with. God found in Mary are yielded heart, for not once did she ask WHY, in light of the lost future and reputation she would be sacrificing. Her third dilemma, which she does address, was HOW could she give birth when she was still a virgin. Many of us like Mary, when given a word or promise from God struggle with the How. Hopefully, we have all gone beyond the WHY question.
God has to know that a heart is totally yielded to Him, so that He can speak anything He desires to that person, regardless of what it may require or cost. If you spend a lot of time asking God why He’s doing a certain thing, because what’s happening is not what you expected or hoped for; or why He did certain things in the past that has altered your life in ways you weren’t expecting; then you’re still at that first stage where you haven’t come to grips with His Lordship in your life. God has called us to live a life of faith, and being surrendered to His sovereign leadership in your life (where you don’t require Him to explain, or defend Himself) is the foundation in which a life of faith is built. Remember, absolute surrender flows from a conviction that He is BIG and can do what He wants, and that He is GOOD, always. More from this story tomorrow.
