Song 2:13 ‘The fig tree has ripened its figs,
And the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance.
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along!’”
Song 2:14 “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret place of the steep pathway,
Let me see your form,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your form is lovely.”
In 1Corinthians 10, Paul identifies the rock from which the water flowed in the wilderness as Jesus. The word “clefts” in verse 14 literally means “a place of retreat, or concealment.” Jesus comes to His Beloved and calls us to new places of intimacy and immunity in Him. He wants to be our hiding place; not other fallen sources of false comfort and security. He wants us to live concealed in Him. When we abide in Him at higher levels, we become more immune to the destroyer, for hidden away in Christ he can’t get to us. Ps.27 says, “In the day of trouble He will conceal me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent he will hide me.” He is always calling us to a new heights of intimacy. Higher is nearer, and in that higher place of living In Christ; that place of nearness, we live a concealed life as we clothe ourselves (hidden away, safe ) In Him.
